Mostly all emeralds are oiled, and oiled emeralds are well-accepted in trade since ages. Emeralds treated with Joban, resins, linseed, which enhances the clarity of emeralds should be disclose in the certification.

Origin plays an important role in the pricing of emeralds. Many a times, it has been observed that Columbian emeralds fetch higher price than emeralds from other origin.
Emerald is a brittle gem. So, it is not recommended to carry it to extreme temperature, as cracks can open up.
It is very hard to tell whether an emerald is synthetic or natural just by looking at it. To identify a natural emerald, a 10x lens or a microscope is required to identify natural inclusion pattern in a gemstone.
Emeralds from Columbia typically contains 3 phase inclusions with jagged outlines. They’re typically composed of brine, a gas bubble, and a salt crystal. While Zambian emeralds typically have 2 phase inclusions.
An emerald without inclusion is very rare. An inclusion is a natural part of a gemstone which is produced during its formation process. While a crack happens on the surface of a gemstone, which is not part of its natural formation. Cracks can also occur during cutting, and mining process.
Some historians estimate that the Egyptians mined emerald as early as 3500 BC. Although some say the ancient Romans (circa 500 BC to 400 AD) knew of an emerald mine in the European Alps, Egypt was the major source of emeralds until the sixteenth century.
Extreme heat, and chemicals can damage emeralds, so avoid applying sanitizer, perfumes, etc. Do not clean emerald jewellery in steam or ultrasonic cleaners. Use lukewarm soapy water to clean emeralds.
